my sunday

our boss has this friend who, according to the boss, is a "like a celebrity" in the korean English-teaching world. recently, the boss has having the teachers help out at all these english sessions in seoul for this celebrity dude. currently, they have this class for students to learn english that is also geared toward sharing Christ as well.
part of that was an event this past sunday that showed the movie "Amazing Grace" at a local theater. a few of us teachers attended the movie. it was a good movie, worth the time if you haven't seen it. the story of William Wilberforce and his counter-cultural fight against slavery is one that i believe every person should know.

as usual, at these English sessions, "we the foreigners" are treated as royalty, asked to stand up amidst enthusiastic applause. i always feel a little guilty because i usually just came to get some excitement in my mundane life. not because i feel some urge to personally see every korean person reach english fluency.

but, regardless, the movie was good and fun and inspiring and, afterwards, along with about 30 koreans, we went to eat some shabu-shabu, one of my favorite dishes i've had in korea. and, as is irritatingly common for these Seoul-bound outings with the boss, we didn't get home until nearly midnight. which, i confess, as the old grandmother that i am, is too late for a work night.
